Driverless metro to open in Fuzhou

A conceptual sketch of a driverless metro train running in Fuzhou, capital city of East China's Fujian province

Fujian's first driverless metro train rolled off the line on April 9 after passing all tests.

The train, with a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour, is 19 meters in length and 2.8 meters in width, and will trial run on a 1.2-kilometer track in Fuzhou, the capital city.

The project, jointly developed by Quanzhou CRRC Tangche Co Ltd and Siemens Transportation (China), adopted the world's leading technologies in urban rail traffic, according to Cao Zegan, chief designer of the driverless train.

All the vehicles operated on Fuzhou Metro Line 1 and Line 2 are manufactured by Quanzhou CRRC Tangche Co Ltd.

Yang Zailiang, general manager of the company, said that the driverless metro project will help Fuzhou rail transit enter the unmanned and digital era and provide more efficient and convenient services for passengers.
