The first Xinjiang-made metro train pulled out of the workshop in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe District) on Sept 28, marking a breakthrough in the rail transit equipment industry of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Named "Silk Road", the white, blue and orange train reflects three distinct regional characteristics of Xinjiang–white snow, blue lakes and orange fruit.

The 140-meter long metro train is 3.8 meters wide, 2.1 meters high and can travel at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The train will be operated on Urumqi's Metro Line 1 by the end of this year.

Urumqi's Metro Line 1 has a 27.6-kilometer route with 21 stops. Designed with Urumqi's climate in mind, the train can perform in extra cold and hot weather.
